Learning the Rules

We all have many roles: husband, wife, mother, father, sister, brother, friend, boss, employee, leader, follower, church member, student, teacher, rebel, peacemaker, human being, spiritual being, business owner - and the list goes on and on. These are the various ways we identify ourselves and they generally seem to come with a set of rules so we can assess how well we are doing at any of these given roles. But, who made those rules?

Well, the rules I made up had me firmly planted in a 'good box.' I made up ideas of what a good daughter, a good mother, a good minister, or a good friend looked like. The problem is, there is little room in the 'good box' for feelings that make me uncomfortable.

So what has been the end result of me making up all of these weird rules? Just take a look at the picture. The result is a lot of emotional bypassing, pretending, and expending a lot of effort to navigate the waters of life. The result is feeling like I've never ever been completely myself. The result is that I feel like I have to hide the aspects of me that live outside the box and outside the rules. The result is that I don't trust my own wisdom.
What rules have you made up for yourself? What roles are you playing? What box have you erected? Where do you feel trapped and not living fully or expressing fully as yourself? How have you not trusted your own wisdom and your own brilliance and looked to someone else? When is it time to start thinking for yourself and trust yourself? Have you been running away from your shadow because it isn't love and light? Where are you pretending and not being authentic?
Here's the one rule: There is only God - and you are it. This is the one rule worthy of keeping on a piece of paper in your back pocket.

Wisdom from Ernest Holmes
All conditions have a sequence of cause and effect as soon as any particular condition exists it may continue to project lesser conditions around it. These secondary causes, however, are projections and never things in themselves.

We become caught in a sequence of these negative conditions.  We come to believe in them as positive within themselves and thus are caught in a perpetual trap.

The way to escape from this dilemma is to look through the condition to the primary or First Cause where energy, intelligence or power exists without any limiting circumstances whatsoever.

Time for a Treat

Spiritual Mind Treatment is not prayer in the normal way we think of prayer. We are not asking a God outside of us to answer a request, hoping for a positive answer and making bargains to get what we want. It is a scientific and methodical way to change the way we think and believe so that our subconscious patterns change in order for our life and experiences to change. Way more than affirmations, it is affirmations on steroids. But in order for it to work in our lives, we have to use it and we have to practice it.

So often we are quick to use alternative healing modalities and slow to use spiritual mind treatment. We go on the internet, we use the magic lights, the magic cards, and the magic crystals. We pay money for shamans and oils and supplements. And that is all good, but how about including spiritual mind treatment with that as well? Maybe we'd get better results or quicker results. This is the crux of what we teach in the Science of Mind philosophy.

Spiritual Mind Treatment isn't about hoping for the best and it isn't about changing God. It is about changing us; it is about aligning our own mind to the Truth that we teach; it is about using this spiritual tool to create new neural pathways and new subconscious patterns. We spend a lot of money buying books and taking seminars from people who are selling to us the very things we teach.

It is time to listen to our own brilliance, our own voice, and our own Truth. We've had this answer all along. Isn't it time to put it to use in our own lives and prove what we've been teaching? You bet!

What challenges or obstacles are you experiencing now? What limiting beliefs are running the show? Where are you trying to make things happen on your own? What if the answer to all your problems was in Spiritual Mind Treatment? You'd say, "Wow, that was easy!"

Wisdom from Ernest Holmes
Treatment is not for the purpose of making things happen; it is to provide, within ourselves, an avenue through which they may happen.[Science of Mind]

In the Science of Mind, which is a conscious use of the creative energy of the Law of Life, mental treatment is the art, the act, and the science of using this Law for the purpose of producing a definite, objective, manifest result. [This Thing Called Life]

Prayer is for the purpose of changing our thinking so we can get rid of what we do not like and have more of the good we do like. [The Magic of the Mind]

Getting Out of the Hole

Autobiography in 5 Short Chapters*Chapter 1I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost ... I am helpless. It isn't my fault. It takes me forever to find a way out. Chapter 2: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in the same place but it isn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out. Chapter 3: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in ... it's a habit. My eyes are open and I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately. Chapter 4: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it. Chapter 5: I walk down another street.

The hole represents those ideas and beliefs that keep us stuck and simply understanding them may not be enough to take us to Chapter 5. Growing up, I learned how to hide my feelings so I could navigate my parents' feelings; never showing or telling what I wanted or needed. I came to believe something was wrong with me and I couldn't be myself if I wanted to fit in or be loved. Looking back, I don't think I was ever completely myself. I am still working in Chapter 3 for my "mac daddy" false belief of "I'm not enough / I'm not good enough / there's something wrong with me."

What about you? How are your early messages and beliefs about who you are still leading you to fall into the hole in the sidewalk? Are you afraid to ask for what you need or want? Are you afraid to appear needy? Or weak? Or assertive? Or arrogant? Are you afraid to sell yourself because you don't want to seem pushy? Do you push away good that is seeking you?  How easy is it for you to receive? Are you afraid to speak up, speak out, or speak your Truth? Have you settled for a life that didn't seem to be one of your choosing? Where do you make excuses in your life? What do you feel you don't deserve? Where and how have you given up? Where do you not let yourself be seen? Where are you holding back? How do your buttons get pushed? How does it make you feel when someone else gets what you want? Whose truth are you living?

There is something deep within calling me to step out and make my truth known. Is something deep calling you? Now is the time to be heard and seen!

Wisdom from Ernest Holmes
Unity does not mean uniformity. Life has set the stamp of individuality upon everything, from a blade of grass to a person. There is unity at the center, variety at the surface. These variations are separate and distinct without being separated or isolated. Variety feeds on the unity in which it is rooted and expands through a consciousness of being one with the whole.

It Isn't Over

The last Sunday of 2014, everyone who attended the service at CPL Sedona had an opportunity to write what we wanted to experience or create in 2015 and what we were willing to release in 2015 and seal it in an envelope. I mailed those out this past week and I opened my envelope and was surprised at the top of the page I wrote: "2015: My Year to Show Up."

At first glance, I immediately thought that I really didn't show up more than normal. I was basically doing the same things: working at Gore and working at CPL Sedona. I was still showing up every Sunday, teaching class, attending the Wednesday night concerts, going to my monthly game night, and playing Bingo once a month as well. So, on the surface, things were the same. And I can say I was a bit disappointed.

But when I reflected longer, I realized I was showing
up deeper, showing up more authentically, and showing up more for myself. I facilitated a correspondence course for an inmate in Alabama, helping him work through issues of anger, frustration, self-acceptance, and shame. This helped me work through my own feelings. I hired a coach who is gifted as seeing past my wall and fear and is a guide on my heroine's journey. I am showing up for myself, moving deeper into myself, and into my power. And it is scary.

What has your year looked like so far? What did you decide to create or experience this year? How have you moved forward with that? What limiting ideas are you willing to release? What do you say "enough" to? There's still time. How can you show up and create something new?

Dragon-slaying, troll dancing, and weed whacking can be a piece of cake once you take that first step.

Wisdom from Ernest Holmes
When a problem confronts you, take it into the silence of your consciousness.  Instead of thinking of the problem, think of the answer.  God does not have problems, therefore, the Divine Mind is the answer to every human problem.  Principles never have problems.  Problems are solved by bringing them under the control of principles.  The problem is dissolved as the principle flows through it to the correct answer.    ~ This Thing Called You
