Tune in and Listen

We all know (or most of us do in any case) that old joke about the man on the streets of New York City who asked someone, "How do I get to Carnegie Hall?" The person leaned on a street sign, laughed a little and said, "Practice. Practice is how to get to Carnegie Hall."

We may want to 'get to' a lot of things and places, but we don't
need to 'get to' God because God is already here and is who we are. However, we may need practice looking within and making that connection instead of looking at the external world and assessing and judging everything through our 3-dimensional eyes. Part of that practice is to tune in and listen to the wisdom.

We all have a built-in ability to successfully navigate the twists and turns of life and find our way home - back to center; back to the Presence within; back to our true selves. But we need to learn to be still and listen; we need to learn to be human 'be-ings' instead of human 'do-ings' in the midst of feeling lost or confused or fearful or sad or lonely. We need to tune in and listen to the wisdom of the Divine within.

Are we wise enough to trust that voice which is the voice of the Divine that is whispering to us? Are we wise enough to listen and to follow? Are we wise enough to practice and put our faith in the Infinite Source of all life? Are we wise enough to remember that we never walk alone? Are we wise enough to be true to our own soul? Tune in and listen!
When you tune in and listen, you'll hear rounds of applause, the universe jumping up and down with joy, and dancing in the streets. Yeah!

Wisdom from Ernest Holmes
As our faith grows, through definite and constant practice, it will do more than satisfy simply our needs. It will bring forth that which is Divine within ourselves. It will bring forth hidden talents which have been lying dormant. It will cause us never again to feel insecure, lonely, or separated. For such faith will make us whole.

Tune Into Your Own Music

The story goes like this: Paganini was scheduled to give a concert and when he appeared to the eager crowd, he looked down to find a cheap violin where his Stradivarius violin should have been. Excusing himself to go backstage, he was told his violin must have been stolen and this was the only replacement the concert hall staff could find.

Paganini goes back out onstage and said, "What I willdo tonight is bear witness to each of you that the music is not in the violin." And by his own account, he went on to play the finest concert of his entire life.

The music, our music, is not in the violin; the music is in each one of us. It is our calling, our quest, our inner brilliance. We want to go deep and unleash our brilliance and our music and then we get sidetracked by the conditions of our life. These conditions may feel as if they've come upon us out of nowhere and they are nothing of our choosing. And when we deal with life at the level of our conditions, it seems as if our music (or God) is nowhere to be found.

And yet, something is calling us to go deeper. We don't need to go in search for meaning or purpose; we don't need to go in search for Spirit or the Divine - it is all right here. Are you willing to open up to the music within? How deep are are you willing to go?

I think I hear Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 61 ringing in my ears. What about you?

Wisdom from Ernest Holmes
Realizing that while the Power is limitless, It must become operative through our own thought, we shall see that what we need is not some greater power, but a greater consciousness, a deeper realization of life, a more sublime concept of Being, a more intimate concept of an already indwelling God

Tuning In to Your Call

The human spirit can be an amazing thing and this month I'm writing about recognizing our spirit and transforming our mind, our heart, and our lives with the theme: 28 Days of Transformation. I love the quote in Romans 12:2: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." In other words, don't take the easy way and judge everything by appearance or what others believe, but be transformed by expansive thinking, feeling, being, and doing.

What are you called to do? Some of us might be uncomfortable with this question because either we don't know what we are called to do, or we think there has to be some huge, enormous, gigantic thing we are supposed to do and it may scare us or we may think we aren't up to the task.

If we are tuning in to our inner genius and really listening to what our heart and our spirit is urging us to do, we may find we are being called to "be present with others," or "use our compassion to help give others hope." When we listen and respond to our call with love and an open spirit, it is great and meaningful.

This week, tune in and listen to Love's divine urge.

Here's what Rumi wrote: "Feel yourself being quietly drawn by the deeper pull of what you truly love." Now, that's your call.

Wisdom from Ernest Holmes
Man's word is creative, not because he wills or wishes it, but because this is the nature of his being. Our impulse to create comes from the original creative Spirit which is in, around and through us. The urge to live creatively comes from the urge of the Divine Imagination which pushes Itself out through us into self-expression. This is man's nature. He neither made it nor can he change it. He is compelled to live under its law.
