Number One Enemy of Success

What if this doesn't work?

Have you ever had an idea that got you excited? Have you wanted to combine your passion with your talent and take it to the world in some way? Maybe you plan and research; maybe you talk to your friends; maybe you even come up with a really cool name. And then it happens. The question: What if it doesn’t work? Somehow we forget to ask, “What if it DOES work?”

And let’s be honest for a minute. What if it doesn’t work? So what? It’s not the end of the world. But our rabid self talk will let us think it is absolutely the end of the world. We would be hard-pressed to find anyone who started something that worked every time.

We’ve all started relationships and seen them fail. We’ve been gung ho about a hobby only to let it go after years (or sometimes less). We’ve started new jobs, new hobbies, and new ways of eating. And sometimes we’ve stopped.

Did we stop because it didn’t work or because we didn’t have confidence? Did we stop because it didn’t work or because we lost interest? Did we stop because it didn’t work or because we found something else we liked better?

We get afraid when all we focus on is the outcome.

We get stuck in either/or thinking. Either I’m a millionaire or I’m not successful. Either I have a thriving business or I’m not successful. Either I’m a best-selling author or I’m not successful. Either I lose all the weight I need to or I’m not successful. Feel free to replace ‘I’m not successful’ with ‘I’m a failure’ or ‘I’m a loser’ (or your own personal favorite).

"You're not worthwhile because you have fulfilled your dreams. You're worthwhile because you exist. You're not enough because you have a good job. You're enough even if you haven't worked in thirteen years. You're not enough because you are loved by many people. You're enough even if nobody knows your name. You're not enough because your financial portfolio is enviable. You're enough even if you're dead broke. And becoming more successful doesn't make you enough, either. It only changes your experience. It doesn't change you." ~ Dr. David Walker

I’m good at starting things.

I’ve started two churches, a Brownie Girl Scout Troop, three LLC businesses, a C-Corporation, a coaching business, and a real estate investing business. And I’ve fallen prey to the either/or mentality. Either these businesses and ideas succeeded or there was something wrong with me.
When I focused only on the outcome, all I saw were my flaws. I only saw all the ways I wasn’t good enough. I saw the ways my ideas failed to take hold. I saw all of my time and energy wasted on pipe dreams.

I never saw that I was a visionary. I never saw my confidence, strength, or courage.

Where do you need help spotting your gifts, strengths, and courage?

CALL TO ACTION: In the next 24 – 48 hours

  • Keep a journal of small actions (yes, small) you can take daily and track when completed.
    • Example 1: “Today, I’m going to listen to a TED Talk that inspires me.” When you complete it, come back to your journal, and write “Success.”
    • Example 2: “Today, I’m going to compliment three people” and when you complete it, come back to your journal, and write, “Success.”
  • For extra credit, list the activities in your journal that you started but didn’t turn out so well that you might still be telling negative stories about. Behind each of these, list what awesome quality was needed for you to even begin (confidence, courage, faith, compassion, trust, vision, etc.)

When you review your journal, all you see are the various ways that you are a success.

It’s time to say ‘yes’ to the success that you are.

Would you like to get crystal clear on what you want to embrace in your life and describe the kind of lifestyle you want to create? Would you like support in discovering how you can use your special gifts and talents to make a difference? Would you like to uncover hidden challenges that may be sabotaging you? Let’s have a Breakthrough session and we'll finish the call with you feeling renewed, re-energized, and inspired to start your Best Life EVER!

Transforming our Faith

We can talk and talk and talk about what our life will look like when we change our thinking; and we can speculate and speculate and speculate about our infinite possibilities and the field of pure potentiality, and the creative nature of the Divine, but until we apply these ideas that we talk about, nothing changes.

When we are busy talking and speculating, we aren't practicing and we aren't consciously utilizing the principles we say we believe in. Faith must be lived and not just talked about. So often, we try something once or twice and if it doesn't work, we quickly give up and revert to our habitual thinking. Our faith is in the familiar and what we can see operating in our lives.

It's time to stop looking to the outer and start looking within to see the love, faith, and wonder that we are. When we can transform our faith from judging by appearances to knowing that what is seen was created from what is unseen; transform our faith from believing the words of experts to tapping into and trusting our own genius; transform our faith in our stories that identify us and thinking we are small, limited, and flawed to understanding that we truly are wonderful and awesome beings  - then we can utilize all we talk about and all we speculate about and move these ideas into action in our lives (whew! that was some long sentence, huh?)

It might just be time to take a leap of faith and see what Spirit can do through you!

Wisdom from Ernest Holmes
It is not going to take any more faith than we now have, for one of the greatest lessons we can learn about faith is that we always possess it. But too often we are using it negatively. As a matter of fact, we are always affirming something, be it for good or for ill. We are always either saying, "I can," or "I cannot." What we need to do is to eliminate the negative and accentuate the positive. In doing this we shall gradually acquire the habit of affirmative thinking

Taking Inspired Action

We want to build a life that is fulfilling, inspiring, full of joy and purpose, and one that utilized our passion, skills, and talents. For many of us, we get busy building, creating, coercing, orchestrating, manipulating, maneuvering, forcing, adjusting. It is as if we are the hammer and everything we see is a nail. We don't want to sit idly waiting for our vision or goals, we want to do something!

What we often forget is that the something we need to do comes from inspired action. You know, the action that comes from that 'still small voice,' not the action from our ever-talkative Monkey Mind. And why do we want to listen to that 'still small voice?'

Because we are so used to listening to the voice that tells us why we can't do it, why there isn't enough time to do it, why we don't have enough education to do it, why it is too hard to do it. That voice anchors us in comfort and the 'still small voice' leads us outside of our comfort zone. And the life we want to build doesn't live inside our comfort zone.

It's time to take inspired action, even if we are afraid, even if we don't want to, and even if we think we need to wait until we read another book or take another class. Let Spirit work for you by working through you today.

You cannot MAKE your dreams manifest (that's Spirit's domain), but you absolutely can make them so welcome that they will appear out of thin air! How about making your bliss welcome? Put out that welcome mat!

Wisdom from Ernest Holmes
Therefore, if anyone asks the question, 'Can I become a millionaire overnight simply by affirming that I have a million dollars?' the answer would be that nothing could be further from the truth. There are too many misguided people in dire circumstances who are affirming 'I am rich.' In a certain sense their affirmation is correct, but frequently they overlook the fundamental premise of the Science of Mind, which is that Spirit can do for us only that which It does through us. Too often they fail to realize that they have a definite part to play in the relationship between God and humankind
